(0 vote) Understanding Material Nature And How To Live In The Real World Victor Epand But since we don't have these siddhis it behooves us to be aware of how the material nature affects our bodies.
It is amazing to me how devotees are oftentimes in denial of this: in our diet, sleeping habits, use of spiritual paraphernalia, eating habits, safety procedures, etc. There are certain laws of Nature (of course Krishna is the Supreme Law Giver who has made these laws). The... products, articles
(0 vote) Understanding How To Live In The Real World And How Material Energy Affects The Mind And Body by Victor Epand. So, Pariksit Maharaja now understands that the ultimate solution to the pangs of material existence is the chanting of the Holy Names. So, as far as our becoming Krishna conscious is concerned; we need to be anxiety about the suffering of the souls in this material world and impelled by that anxiety we need to always be thinking of how to get people to chant and hear about Krishna. In other words... products, articles
(0 vote) Material Love and The Modes of Nature by Victor Epand. What do we call material love in our world? What we call "love" in this world is simply the self-centered desire to enjoy the "beloved" object. So our love for something or someone is dependent upon whether or not our senses are being pleased.
For example, people generally love animals such as cats because of the sensual attraction to soft fur, or dogs because of the dog's desire to please the m... products, articles
(0 vote) The Hindu Denominations Throughout The World by Victor Epand. In today's world, Hinduism comprises of numerous sects or denominations. The main divisions in the current Hinduism are the Shaivism, Shaktism, Vaishnavism, and Smartha. Each of these four denominations will often times share rituals, beliefs, and traditions.
However, each of these denominations will often have a totally different philosophy on how to achieve life's ultimate goal, which is moksa... products, articles
(0 vote) In Real Love-Empathy-Compassion There is Equality, and Hierarchy Vanishes Like the Mist Victor Epand This is different from sympathy in which one from a superior position simply feels sorry for thosewho are suffering. In real love/empathy/compassion there is equality and hierarchy vanishes like the mist being burnt off by intense sunshine. By understanding this particular point, so much in Prabhupada's work becomes very very clear. We oftentimes speak about how a Vaisnava is an ocean... products, articles
(0 vote) Frustration, Material Pleasure and Three Gates Leading to Hell by Victor Epand. Our nature is spiritual--different from the material body that we are inhabiting. We can never become happy by attempting to satisfy the body. The soul must be satisfied.
Srila Prabhupada gave an example of the "Bird in the Cage" to illustrate this point. If the owner of the bird only pays attention to the cage, polishing it carefully, and neglects the inhabitant of the cage (the bird), the bird... products, articles

SYNONYMS
prakritih -- material nature; guna -- of the three modes; samyam -- the original equilibrium; vai -- indeed; prakriteh -- of nature; na atmanah -- not of the spirit soul; gunah -- these modes; sattvam -- goodness; rajah -- passion; tamah -- ignorance; iti -- thus called; sthiti -- of the maintenance of universal creation; utpatti -- its production; anta -- and its annihilation; hetavah -- the causes.
TRANSLATION
Nature exists originally as the equilibrium of the three material modes, which pertain only to nature, not to the transcendental spirit soul. These modes -- goodness, passion and ignorance -- are the effective causes of the creation, maintenance and destruction of this universe.
PURPORT
In Bhagavad-gita (3.27) it is stated,
prakriteh kriyamanani
gunaih karmani sarvasah
ahankara-vimudhatma
kartaham iti manyate
"The bewildered spirit soul, under the influence of the three modes of material nature, thinks himself to be the doer of activities, which are in actuality carried out by nature."
The three modes of nature, in their original state of equilibrium, as well as the subsequent creation generated from the modes, are vastly more powerful than the tiny living entity who is controlled by them. The living entity thus cannot be accepted as the actual doer or creator within the material world. The mode of goodness is symptomized by the experience of knowledge, the mode of passion by the experience of work, and the mode of ignorance by the experience of darkness. These modes of material knowledge, work and darkness have no real relation with the transcendental spirit soul, who exhibits his own qualities of eternality, bliss and knowledge (the sandhini, samvit and hladini potencies of the Supreme Lord). The material modes have no access within the kingdom of God, in the unbounded atmosphere of which the eternal living entity is meant to live.
